Tesco To Recycle A Million Phones
February 20th, 2009
An important event was announced today that will enclose the task of recycling almost four million mobile phones that have been unused and left abandoned in Britain. The phone system includes a total use of forty million handsets out of which five percent of unused cell phones are recycled every year.
The used phones cannot be treated as wastage; in fact they consist of several metals that are beneficial and dangerous in nature. Cadmium, lithium, lead and mercury pollutes the environment with harmful substances, while gold and palladium are used as important elements.
Tesco declared that the event would enable a total of 700 Tesco supermarkets to submit certain unused mobiles to be recycled. An amount of £5 will be donated to “Cystic Fibrosis Trust”, “Alzheimer’s Society” and “NCH- a children charity” for each phone.
The process of recycling will be completed by “XS Tronics” among all other recycle based companies like “Envirofone”. Tesco has a total UK sales of £18 billion from a group of 13 million customers. Earnings from the recycling of mobiles would be donated in order to develop the social status and help to keep the planet waste free.
The director of NCH requested the people to encourage this programme in order to produce better environmental conditions. Soon the purpose would be transferred under the European Union Law.
